La grande sorpresa di questa 96esima edizione è American Fiction, il film di Cord Jefferson porta a casa 5 nomination tra cui quella più ghiotta del miglior film
Rullo di tamburi. Sono state svelate poco fa le candidature degli Oscar 2024 e il palcoscenico è pronto per la notte più attesa del cinema, che si terrà tra il 10 e l'11 marzo. Poche sorprese e tante conferme caratterizzano la lista delle nomination, mentre le aspettative salgono alle stelle per l'ambita consegna dei premi. L'Italia tiene le dita incrociate per l'ambita statuetta nella categoria del miglior film straniero con "Io Capitano" di Matteo Garrone. Nel frattempo, "Oppenheimer" di Christopher Nolan guida con ben 13 nominations, tra cui miglior film, regia e attore protagonista. La grande sconfitta sembra essere "Barbie", che, come preannunciato dagli analisti, perde la possibilità di correre per il premio come miglior attrice e miglior regia, raggiungendo "soltanto" 8 candidature. Anche se figura nella prestigiosa categoria "Best Pictures", la vittoria sembra un obiettivo lontano. La sorpresa è invece "American Fiction" di Cord Jefferson, che con 5 nominations, tra cui miglior film, si guadagna l'attenzione del pubblico.

Tra gli attori, la sfida sembra essere tra Cillian Murphy e la sua interpretazione in "Oppenheimer" e Paul Giamatti, attualmente sul grande schermo con "The Holdovers". Bradley Cooper, portatore di Leonard Bernstein in "Maestro", potrebbe essere il terzo incomodo. Per le attrici, l'assenza di Margot Robbie è evidente, mentre Emma Stone per "Povere Creature" sembra avere la strada spianata, anche se gli analisti indicano Lily Gladstone come possibile vincitrice. Inaspettatamente, Sandra Huller con "Anatomia di una Caduta" si fa strada nella categoria, con numerose nominations, escluse quelle per il miglior film straniero, in quanto la Francia ha scelto di non selezionarlo come film di bandiera. Robert Downey Jr. si erge come il favorito per il premio del miglior attore non protagonista, mentre la categoria delle attrici non protagoniste sembra essere più difficile da predire. La lotta per il premio della miglior regia sembra essere meno serrata quest'anno, con Christopher Nolan che emerge come il super favorito, soprattutto dopo la sua vittoria al Golden Globe. Altri nominati includono Justine Triet, Martin Scorsese, Yorgos Lanthimos e Jonathan Glazer.
L'attesa è ora per il 10 e l'11 marzo, quando si sveleranno i vincitori e si scriverà un nuovo capitolo nella storia degli Oscar.
